[kde-freebsd] Reproducing "service ... is malformatted"

One thing we sometimes run into on FreeBSD is messages "service ... is 
malformatted". This may-or-may-not be related to the occasional failure of 
kwalletd to open any wallets. It (both service malformatted and kwalletd 
problems) has been reported in the context of unclean shutdowns and of doing 
"halt -p" from outside the KDE session. As far as I know it's reported against 
KDE4 packages from official ports.

I've now got a way to reproduce this, but could use some hints on debugging 
what's going on next. Bunch of screenshots attached.

 - Reboot. Log in to KDE4. See, I have a konsole button next to the K-Menu 
(and a broken rekonq button, but that's beside the point). Clicking on that 
konsole button starts konsole. [shot1.png]
 - Start VirtualBox from KRunner. [shot2.png]
 - In VirtualBox, go to the settings of a VM, then to the storage section, and 
choose the CD drive. There's a button to choose a virtual CD image file.

 - Clicking on that button waits quite some time, then pops up a file chooser 
and an error message. [shot4.png]
 - Hit ESC three times to back out of error message, file dialog, and VM 
settings dialog, back to VirtualBox's main window. Now click on that konsole 
button next to the K-Menu again. [shot5.png]


So what is getting killed along the way?
