hi list!
as announced, i'm in the process of upgrading from kde 4.2.4 to kde
4.2.96 (i did `svn up` right before thomas abthorpe started updating
the l10n ports, so i have the bleeding edge area 51)
i'd like to report some information about my upgrade, i think it will be useful
at the moment i'm writing from konqueror 4.2.96. i have kdelibs,
kdelibs-experimental, kdebase, kdebase-workspace and kdepimlibs (plus
all the qt's) upgraded, and it seems to work: no crashes till now (i
can even use desktop effects with intel!), but there are obviously
rough edges which i'm not going to report until i'll have everything
done (and every package reinstalled - you know, if some files got
moved from a port to another, there will be problems like in 4.2)
while upgrading (qt-4.4.3 and kde-4.2.4) i got the following problems:
- dbus-qt4 and qt4-designer: they were linking to their global
installed libraries instead of local ones, so i had to uninstall them
first (i guess how many other ports suffer from this problem silently
:/)
- kdeplasma-addons requires kdeedu-4.3 because of the marble desktop
engine. i don't know if it's automatically disabled if kdeedu is not
found, but it failed for me because i had kdeedu-4.2.4 installed,
so... well, i think you should handle this someway :)
it's all for now, i'll be back with some updates when possible
cheers, and thanks for making this possible!
