Could you please be so kind and point me to the 'UPDATING' doc you mean?
Note, I have not done an 'update', but a clean fresh install of 7.1R and
also portsnap+portupgrade; I think X11/kde3 should build in that case
without any problems; don't you agree? IMHO all required works should be
done by the Makefiles of the port(s);
