Hello all,
I started rebuilding KDE4 on my box just yesterday. I have some thoughts, but
first, my environment. I'm running 7.0-RELEASE-p2 on an Athlon 5200+
dual-core processor, 2GB ram, and a 320GB SATA-II drive.
I've been building the ports by checking out or upgrading area51 and then
union-fs'ing it on top of my usual ports tree. I have kde3 installed.
1) I find it impossible to use portupgrade (my preferred ports tool) when
doing things this way. I can't rebuild the INDEX file, and so making a proper
INDEX.db file won't work. (There are a number of broken area51 ports that
won't do make index properly.)
2) A list of the ports that KDE4 uses would be very useful. I've read the wiki
page; I'm thinking of downloading the kde4.tar.bz2 file to create such a
list.
3) kdebase-workspace requires qt-phonon, but it's not listed as a dependency.
I'm believe that we're going to make qt-phonon and phonon conflict, yes?
make: don't know how to make /usr/local/lib/qt4/libphonon.so. Stop
*** Error code 2
Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4-workspace/work/kdebase-workspace-4.0.83/build.
*** Error code 1
Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4-workspace/work/kdebase-workspace-4.0.83/build.
*** Error code 1
Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4-workspace.
*** Error code 1
Stop in /usr/ports/x11/kdebase4.
4) I'm disappointed that kdepim4 and kdepim3 conflict due to dependency
issues. I can't afford to uninstall kdepim3 due to my reliance on kmail.
That's about all for now. I'll have to wait and see when I get home if my
current "basic" kde4 install will work well.
Cheers,
Dwayne MacKinnon
