I've just realized that KDE4 brings its own kopete as
/usr/local/kde4/bin/kopete (0.50.80 says 'about'); I have had the old
icon on my desktop that's why always the KDE3 kopete was started;

the 0.50.80 does not work either (even with the deleted openssl-0.9.8h_1
not); it says:

kopete(47270)/kopete (msn) MSNAccount::setOnlineStatus: "Online"
kopete(47270)/libkopete KopetePasswordRequest::begin:
kopete(47270)/libkopete Kopete::WalletManager::openWalletInner: about to open wallet async
kopete(47270)/libkopete Kopete::WalletManager::slotWalletChangedStatus:  isOpen:  true
kopete(47270)/libkopete Kopete::WalletManager::slotWalletChangedStatus: Succesfully opened the wallet !
kopete(47270)/libkopete KopetePasswordRequest::walletReceived:
kopete(47270) KopeteWindow::slotIdentityStatusIconChanged: QVariant(, )
kopete(47270)/kdecore (KNetwork resolver) <unnamed>::ResInitUsage::shouldResInit: shouldResInit: /etc/resolv.conf updated
kopete(47270)/kopete (msn - raw protocol) MSNSocket::slotReadyWrite: Sending command:  "VER 0 MSNP11 MSNP10 CVR0"
QIODevice::write: ReadOnly device
kopete(47270)/kopete (msn) MSNSocket::slotSocketError: Error:  17  ( "remote host closed connection" )
QObject: Do not delete object, 'unnamed', during its event handler!
kopete(47270)/kopete (msn) MSNSocket::slotSocketClosed: Socket closed.
kopete(47270)/kopete (msn) MSNAccount::slotNotifySocketClosed:
kopete(47270) KopeteWindow::slotIdentityStatusIconChanged: QVariant(, )
kopete(47270)/libkopete Kopete::Account::disconnected: 99
kopete(47270)/kopete (msn) MSNNotifySocket::~MSNNotifySocket:
