You might like to consider PC-BSD, even if you want a pure FreeBSD system.
Our latest version, 1.5, is 100% FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE under the hood. It's just
the base system, plus KDE and a load of other desktop oriented ports
pre-configured to make it easier for you with a smattering of bespoke GUI
tools to allow you to configure things not found in other areas.
Even if you're not interested in PBIs (our main installation method) you can
still use ports and the like and just use PC-BSD as a way to very quickly get
a functioning FreeBSD 6.3 system installed with KDE out of the box :)
