Yes, can be committed separately. But is there really a formal specification, something from freedesktop.org, or did other file managers just copy the feature? In the latter case, I really suggest that we just add pattern support there, and others, again, are free to copy the feature. There is no harm, if other file managers do not support the feature yet. Dolphin long did not hide the files, either, and it was never considered a bug, but only a missing feature.
