The old one tells me what it is, but what are "frameworks" to a user. Yes to us and the informed developers it's clear, but from a user perspective I think development platform might be the better term to use. In the same way we didn't call it kdelibs there before the switch to frameworks.

Ah, maybe a bit of rationale, I think I was acting on assumptions here, hence the short description.

In KDE SC 4, we started the rebranding between the three pillars (platform, workspaces and apps). The term platform communicates something to build upon, while at the same time being a monolithic things. In order to communicate the what and the why of our kdelibs(+other repos), we wanted to move this brand to the Frameworks brand (hence the project name, and the name for the collated release of the frameworks libraries). We talked about this during the inceptional meeting for Frameworks 5, and concluded that a) we want to go with the frameworks brand, since it supports better how the individual libs can be used by third party developers, and that to underline the significance of the newly modularized stack, with the release of the new Frameworks, we would start to use that brand for the developer-facing bits of KDE's product range (i.e. kdelibs cq. KDE Development Platform cq. KDE Frameworks). Forthgoing, the brand "KDE Development Platform" is deprecated (or used to refer to 4.x and previous).

I've dug a bit through the wiki, and could find at least a short recap of that at http://community.kde.org/Frameworks/Terminology#Platform_11 which explicitely mentions frameworks as a product.

This patch basically implements these branding-related decisions in the places visible to the user.
