actually I think the whole attic/ directory can be removed.
The idea back then in 2011 was to go over all those files, and move them one 
by one into the proper directory.
But I think in the meantime these files have bitrotten, and don't serve a 
purpose anymore.
Instead I'd prefer to add files to e-c-m on demand, when a tier[123] library 
needs them.
