One problem is that the syntax highlighter is only one part of spell checking. 
For me the idea of a "default highlighter" makes no sense as it is unclear 
what it would highlight, i.e. which syntax rules it would use, etc.

If we want spell check integration depending on platform then that is what we 
should push for.

Hmm. Using the sonnet framework is a contious choice anyway, so it shouldn't 
be a problem to let the app developer use it. Making it easy to hook it up 
with text input widgets would be a good feature in any case.
