Hello,

The company I work for has been using KDE since version 1 are using a patched version
of KDE 2.2.1 now and are switching to KDE 3.3.2 (because that's the stable
Version in Debian). KDE is used as an integration platform on some hundret workstations. It is basically used
to display applications coming from different application servers, be it Solaris,
Linux or Windows. For Windows applications citrix' ICAClient is used.
Under KDE version 3 they experience massive problems when running
a windows application in a so called "seamless" mode. In a seamless mode
the application window does not have the window decorations, so that placement,
recising, minimizing, .. is not done by kwin but by using the windows application's
border, titlebar and buttons. I hope you understand what I mean, or even better
you have seen that yourself. I should point out that the workstations used
are mostly multiheaded with at least 3 screens up to 7 and not in xinerama mode,
although they partially will switch to xinerama in the near future.
The problems we observe with these "seamless" applications are:
- random focus loss; focus switches to another screen while typing in an application
  (like typing in word)
- When moving the application the window get's corrupted, and doesn't show the actual placement,
clicking on a menu button opens two menus, I cannot describe it very good so I attached a snapshot.
- When switching to a virtual desktop with two seamless windows, always one is put at front, no matter
which was at front when leaving the desktop
- there are several other issues with focus in multihead mode

The list is a little longer, but I think as this is not kwin at kde.org I better stop, hope you see
there are massive problems which makes kwin quite unusable in this environment.
Also i hope you agree that for the enterprise KDE should be able to display window applications,
also in seamless mode.
For now I replaced kwin with metacity, that does not show these problems. You may notice
that metacity is the default window manager in gnome. Needless to say that I dislike this
workaround. Please also note that these problems have been absent under KDE 2.2.1.
If you agree that KDE should be able to display windows applications, how can
KDE be made ready for this?

Regards,

      Peter
