Hi Mario,

your suggestion is great - and already on the Desiderata page (1).
Devising an exam myself this very moment, I found out, that the syntax
of Openoffice Writer's formula editor is quite TeX like:

 size 12{5 rSup { size 8{6} }  cdot 5 rSup { size 8{7} }  }

returns the product of 5^6 * 5^7.

The content.xml file in the unzipped sxw file has some entry
 <draw:object draw:style-name="fr1" draw:name="Objekt13"
text:anchor-type="as-char" svg:width="1.083cm" svg:height="0.587cm"
draw:z-index="4" xlink:href="#./ObjBFFFDA6C" xlink:type="simple"
xlink:show="embed" xlink:actuate="onLoad"/>

This points to some other contet.xml in an object folder that looks like
this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE math:math PUBLIC "-//OpenOffice.org//DTD Modified W3C MathML
1.01//EN" "math.dtd"><math:math
xmlns:math="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><math:semantics><math:mrow><math:mstyle
math:fontsize="12pt"><math:mrow><math:mrow><math:mrow><math:msup><math:mn>5</math:mn><math:mstyle
math:fontsize="8pt"><math:mrow><math:mn>6</math:mn></math:mrow></math:mstyle></math:msup><math:mo
math:stretchy="false">∗</math:mo><math:msup><math:mn>5</math:mn><math:mstyle
math:fontsize="8pt"><math:mrow><math:mn>7</math:mn></math:mrow></math:mstyle></math:msup></math:mrow><math:mo
math:stretchy="false">=</math:mo><math:mrow/></math:mrow></math:mrow></math:mstyle><math:mrow/></math:mrow><math:annotation
math:encoding="StarMath 5.0"> size 12{5 rSup { size 8{6} } *5 rSup
{ size 8{7} } ={}} {}</math:annotation></math:semantics></math:math>

Maybe exporting to sxw can be done this way (rather than TeX).

Regards
Ralf
