IIRC, there's a messages: target in the libkdeedu/Makefile.am, and should 
extract all the i18n strings from all the libkdeedu subdirs.

Maybe what's wrong is to tell the various kdeedu libs to add the libkdeedu 
catalog to the catalog list where they look for messages.
