Dear KDE-Eco members,
Green IO Paris will be on December 9th to 11th. We expect more than 800
responsible technologists to attend from all over Europe. Knowing that you
might be familiar with Green IO conferences, I skip the presentation. In
case you need a refresher, feel free to have a look at the Green IO Paris

and
know more about the theme.
This 3rd edition will come with a gift to the entire digital sustainability
community across Europe which will be of special interest for you, hence
this message.
On Dec 10th, a dedicated, invite-only NGO track is planned. This track will
be separate from the main one with the usual talks and panels.
Why?
The North Star of this track is simple yet ambitious: "Sparking
collaboration across European green IT non-profit initiatives". More
specifically we hope participants will:
1.
Network and get to know each other in person,
2.
Learn about each other's missions and initiatives,
3.
Find topics or projects for future collaborations.
This day aims to create space for deep discussions amongst people already
active in the non-profit green IT space, with an emphasis on creating true
human connections.
Who?
We’re extending this invitation to NGOs with operations in Europe (the
continent, not just EU), who are involved in advocating for or creating
solutions for a more environmentally sustainable IT industry. FYI more than
15 NGOs have already confirmed their participation and I expect almost all
of them to join.
What’s the proposed agenda?
-
Dec 10 morning “Get to know each other”: networking, round table
presentations of each NGO’s mission and one or two specific projects
where you’re seeking advice or European partners.
-
Dec 10 afternoon “Starting Cross Collaboration with your peers”:
discussions to get deeper into each other’s missions and requests for
advice/collaborations.
-
Dec 10 evening “Green IO Apéro Party”: of course you’ll all be invited
to the Green IO Paris happy hours right after the conference to mingle with
hundreds of participants of Green IO Paris!
-
Dec 11 morning “NGOs on main stage”: a 25’ panel discussion on the main
track where each NGO can share their takeaways from the previous day and
highlight a project to the entire audience of Green IO Paris 2025 (setup
will be fishbowl style).
NB The facilitation setup is still WIP, more below.
How?
I’d like to stress that Green IO is a logistics facilitator here but does
not intend to “lead” the day itself aside from creating the opportunity to
get you all in a room together.
The plan is to organize with an “unconference” mindset. Facilitators will
be active members of the various NGOs, and nominated ahead of the day. All
participants will be asked to actively and freely participate and be open
to self-organising when necessary.
For this reason and due to room capacity, each NGO is being invited to
nominate up to two people from their organisation to attend (if you really
need a third person please let me know and we will see what we can figure
out).
For clarification, this limit doesn’t apply to the other track of the day
(with talks, panel discussions and the Digital Sustainable Challenge final)
where as many members of your organization can attend.
What’s next?
It all comes down to you answering the following questions:
-
Would your NGO be interested to participate?
-
If your NGO is interested, then could you tell me who you nominate (one
or two people) to participate on behalf of your NGO?
-
Bonus question: we are also looking for facilitators, do you have
someone in mind with a solid background in facilitation and collective
intelligence techniques who could help us make this track a success?
I hope that you’ll get as excited as we have been for the last weeks
organizing this opportunity. If you have any questions, please come back to
me and let’s have a chat.
I wish to see you folks in Paris to attend this unique networking
opportunity, as well as enjoying the rest of the conference and its stellar
line-up!
