Dear wonderful KDE Eco community,
I was wondering if I can ask a few of you to join our upcoming debate in Berlin on AI and its environmental impact (what else?!) - it’s next Thursday from 13:00 to 15:00 at the Impact Lab in Neukölln (“KI Ideenwerkstatt”) - invite is attached.
I am trying to get a diverse set of opinions together - a few people from the Ministries will join as well as software engineers building AI products and lastly, it would be great to have some open-source community representation there as well.
It will mostly a debate - using a Fishbowl format, so that we can really hear everyone’s perspectives on this.
The reason is simple: We feel a bit lost. Many people and governments are racing toward embracing AI ‘at all costs’ and talking about the environmental costs of this is increasingly a ’side conversation’. We want to think with all of you on how to get it center stage (or tell us to dismiss acting on it, because it doesn’t matter/will fix itself, which I personally doubt).
In any case, a warm welcome to all of you (and especially @Joseph) and hope to see some of you.
Max
