I thought some of you might be interested in participating in the
*SoftAWERE workshop* 17 February (see announcement below)?
Please contact me or Thorge Saß directly (thorge.sass at sdialliance.org)!
You can read more about the SoftAWERE project here:
https://sdialliance.org/steering-groups/softawere
> We created the SoftAWERE industry steering group to oversee and set the direction for the development of tools and labels for energy-efficient software applications. The majority of the work has been financed by the Germany's Federal Ministry of Economics with the project management done by the German Environmental Agency.
Cheers,
Joseph

The agenda is now available.
Dear Joseph
On Thursday, 17.02.2022, from 10:00 to 14:00 CET, the SDIA will be
hosting their first virtual open industry workshop on their new
SoftAWERE project, aimed at creating the tools necessary to measure
energy efficiency of open source libraries and components, creating
transparency and enabling better choices for developers.
Since you are part of the software industry, we would kindly like to
invite you to the event to share your expertise.
With the first workshop, we will introduce the project, discuss the
first findings and give you the opportunity to ask questions and
actively participate in the delivery of the project. If the following
agenda sounds interesting to you and you would like to participate,
please register for the event using the link below:
Note: If you have already registered for the event in the past, please
sign up via the link below again to select your preferred breakout room
discussion.

THE PROJECT
The project has been launched by the German Environmental Protection
Agency (UBA), is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate
Protection (BMWK) and executed by the SDIA in collaboration with
Eco-Institute.
The objective of the project is to enable developers to consider energy
consumption as part of the development process and take it into account
when selecting libraries and third-party components. This leads to
better environmental choices during the development process.
The outcomes of this project will be:
- An applicable and repeatable approach to measuring the electrical
power consumption of software development components and tools
- The development and feasibility verification of a label for software
applications regarding the electrical energy use
- Political recommendations on facilitating the broader adoption of this
measurement framework
Since this is a hands-on project that connects theoretical groundwork
with practical application, your participation is key to moving this
project forward and consequently creating the path towards
energy-efficient software.
