problem with sizing on laptop desktop

Hi Uri,
I tried all of the suggestions below, and it I didn't end up with the problem solved.  I still have a desktop (the overall background) as being too large.  Example - upon logging in, I cannot see the taskbar at the bottom without moving the mouse pointer downwards until it appears.  Also, when I get online, the open sites are way oversized.
