Formatting / indenting Docbook files

Hello,
I'd like to know how to properly indent Docbook files, as properly indented
XML is much more readable.
A simple xmllint --format does not work (tags get jumbled together), and
xmllint --loaddtd --noent is the only way I found to make it work, but it
translates all entities into tags, which doesn't seem right. Tidy doesn't
seem to work either. This is reproducible even with the default template
provided by KDocTools (
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kdoctools/-/blob/master/src/template.docbook
).
I figure I must be missing something.
Thanks in advance.
