That was fixed for Plasma 5.3 this summer. ;)

It is about how an email client is configured in your system. Please  
choose your default handler for "mailto:" links in System Settings ->  
Default Applications (you can press Alt+F2 then enter something like  
"default" to see the corresponding link at the top of the list).
