As for your question, you can change the icon

1. by putting the user-trash.png icons into the corresponding folders in  
~/.kde/share/icons/<name-of-your-current-icon-theme(default is  
oxygen)>/<size>/places (and status for full trash)

2. by replacing the files in  
/usr/share/icons/<name-of-your-current-icon-theme(default is  
oxygen)>/<size>/places (and status for full trash)
