Personal note:
I don't like reading manuals that explain what "the user" can or cannot do.
I prefer manuals that talk directly to me.

There should be an easier way, like a menu item:
Edit - Select All
In OOo calc you can also click in the upper left corner
to select all cells at once.
I haven't been able to find such a feature in KSpread...
