You really (I promise) don't need to. I've just committed some changes to the
template, to hopefully help clarify the problems. If you really want to
research it, google on "parameter entities vs system entities" and the first
hit is a very indepth discussion on the differences.
As far as actually getting working, read the guide at
http://i18n.kde.org/doc/markup/ and remove and replace every instance of
&kapp; with &k-my-own-app;, define that one entity, and it will work.
The language entities are part of the KDE doctools infrastructure, and are
there to save you an enormous amount of work. You simply don't have to
touch them, as the comments say.
I hope the changes I just made to the template make things clearer, if you
have suggestions for further clarification, I'd like to hear those too.
