It's on my keyboard (for tabs ;-).  I admit, it's not very
general, but I think it's better than nothing.  But if you
insist, the content of <keycap> admits images, so 
 --->|
 |<---
etc. would be a possibility.  (Whether one prefers the text or
the image probably depends on the user level - and the exact
keyboard.)
