Option 3: wait for me to update the page, I just discovered the same problems.
The 10 kb is probably going to have to be raised a little, but I just made
several in the 12-15kb size range, so it's not too bad.

Run KDE in 16 or 24 bit, making sure it's at 72 dpi (this is the key to the
small file sizes.)

You can get rather good screenshots with this command line, using the utility
"import" from the ImageMagick suite.

"import --depth 8 --dither --frame --quality 100 <filename>.png"
run this in a terminal, hit enter, the cursor will change to a cross shape,
click on the window you want to screenshot, and it will be saved to
<filename>. Omit --frame if you just want the window contents and not the
window decoration. KSnapshot doesn't do too bad a job, but you'll have to
reduce the size in gimp or something like it yourself.

Crystal, it is the default.

I'll update the web page too.
