Portege?

Having used Gentoo for a couple years, I noticed the portage package in the 
filelist at sourceforge.net with some curiousity.

I take it this reflects someones effort to leverage portege for automating 
the build process am I wrong?

If so, the package looks like one it worked well enough that it never needed 
to be updated, or it was tried initially and turned out to be more trouble 
than it was worth.

Anyway, I'm just curious, because I think it would be handy to be able to 
leverage portage to automate building apps for cygwin if that were a 
realistic option.

Is there anyone out there that found this compelling enough to continue using 
it? Would it even work if I downloaded and tried it? Did anyone manage to get 
any ebuilds put together that it was useful for?
