What happened to my KDE?

This isn't necessary. Do you have tried to start a minimal kde ? 

Make sure, you have the following files, which sets some environment: 

/etc/profile.d/kde314.sh 
/etc/profile.d/qt3.2.sh 

Then try from a bash shell 

ipc-daemon2 &
Xwin -multiwindow -clipboard &
kdeinit 
kwrite & 

If there are any errors please report
