Sorry for the necromancy, but I was at the GStreamer conference last
week, and there was a talk[1] by Edward Hervey about how GStreamer now
has a simple API for the remaining cases we have that Phonon is
commonly used for. And maybe we should consider just wholesale using
GStreamer directly these days. It's fairly portable and works on
Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and even more platforms I don't know.
:)
It would certainly be better than the situation we have now (some use
libvlc, some use libcanberra, some use phonon, some use ffmpeg), and
it would give me less heartburn with a much more stable API. :)
