there is going to be a KDE SC 4.8 release. 

but not another feature release of the Platform (kdelibs, kde-runtime) called 
4.8.

applications and workspaces will continue to release, and the next release of 
those will be 4.8.

this is why getting the wording about what "KDE" means is so important.
