these actually both belong on community.kde.org, btw: http://kate-
editor.org/2010/07/26/the-mission-of-kdes-wikis/

anyways, I'm too lazy to move them ;)

but I've started another page, for documenting what we've got now:

to begin with I'm just dumping in the contents of this thread (I think I'm 
about half done...)
