Just in case someone else besides me is interested in the patch -- here it is.

Besides the previously mentioned problem it also avoids creating a view in 
KDirOperator::setMode(), which will only be destroyed and recreated later 
when readConfig() is called.
(In case a view is already available in setMode(), it does update it).
