KXMLGuiClient doesn't except empty strings as xml files anymore

Yes, it should be fixed on trunk. I removed this assertion on revision 
http://websvn.kde.org:80/trunk/KDE/kdelibs/kdeui/xmlgui/kxmlguiclient.cpp?r1=858710&r2=860861 
(trunk).

We were actually calling setDomDocument with an empty document (when no rc was 
provided by the app in a explicit way).
