seems to work here (with just composite extension disabled, 32bit 1400x1050, 
intel driver). whats your graphics card driver/resolution/depth?

compared to other code I can find via Google codesearch we don't seem to be 
setting the scanline alignment in XCreateImae, though I don't know if that 
makes the difference.
