if you don't like KMail's sieve editor, you can just open the file in 
KWrite!

kwrite sieve://imap.example.com/script

ALL of the protocols you listed as internal have some benefit in being 
public, to a degree or another. You can browse your POP3 messages 
directly from Konqueror, for instance.
