Here's another interesting presentation about current trends in printing

PAPI was mainly driven by SUN in the past few years. Note how they state
on their 6th slide about their "next steps":

   "Integrate support for various Open Source projects:
    KDE/Qt, Open Office, Samba, GTK+, etc."
