 I'll press Alt+F to open the File menu instead :). Konsole is clearly special 
here, Alt+<letter> already don't work there for a reason, and in fact I've 
thought the same about Alt alone before trying now. I don't really have a 
good answer here.

 This is not about implementation, this is about using it. Have you never 
triggered a menu with Alt by accident (or accesskey popups in KHTML with 
Ctrl)? Note that this is a rhetorical question, I wouldn't believe "never" 
answer anyway :).
