shouldn't it be the other way round?

The huge advantage of Ctrl+,/. over all combinations that involve tabs or even 
arrow keys is that you don't have to move your hands while touch-typing with 
all 10 fingers. This makes life way more productive than re-positioning your 
hands all the time...	

Have you ever tried konversation with Alt+left/right? Switch to one channel, 
type something, switch to the next, type something there, switch back to the 
first to see if someone has already responded. This simple procedure requires 
already four large hand movements as opposed to a simple 3cm movement of the 
left little finger in the Ctrl+,/. case.
(Of course, it's still more efficient than using the mouse for switching.)
