I don't understand your post, Stephan.

I don't compile X11 myself (kubuntu does that for me), and yet:
ldd /usr/lib/libXft.so | grep libexpat
        libexpat.so.1 => /usr/lib/libexpat.so.1 (0xb7c31000)
