OK, in that case that's normal. You are kprinter-ing *a* PDF then...

Meaning you are handing a PDF to kprinter.

Your expression "print to PDF in kprinter" implied to me (looking at it
rather from the enduser perspective) that you wanted kprinter to use
the 'special' printer "Print to File (PDF)".
