For me the most important issues of a simple image viewer are:
1) Speed
2) No clutter (i.e. show just the image, no toolbars, menus, status bar, etc.)
3) easily turn the view (without having to modify the image itself)
4) Easily traverse through the images in the directory (forward and backward)
using the keyboard.

It seems that gwenview (at least the version in Debian sid) fails 1-3 and
fulfills only 4 (and that only in a quite awkward way by using space for
forward and backspace for backward. Up/Down, Left/Right or Page Up/Down would
be way easier).

One other feature of kuickshow that I like is that it enlarges the window if
the image is larger.
