been there, done that, got the t-shirt with the bikeshed on it to prove it.

i'm not happy with this process, but i'm done fighting this particular battle
and just want to get some results that aren't going to be met with flames,
arguments and general discouragement.

we (those creating content on devnew) tried making a decision and it was met
with resistance. to satisfy people we created a discussion page on the wiki.
sadly, i don't think consensus amongst those actually involved has been
swayed at all by the discussion since, well, it's all pretty arbitrary and
the alternatives suggested haven't been remarkably better than what we
started with.

but if the devnew people simply say "we still prefer the original plan" it'll
almost certainly be met with another bunch of unhelpful outbursts that will
leave me unhappy and bitter (something i need to void) and us without a name
(something i'd prefer to avoid).

and before you point out that it's hypocritical for people to object to having
the people involved with a project name the project when that is exactly what
we do with our software: i'm already aware of that irony. i also think it's
pathetic, but don't feel empowered to do anything about it other than
acquiesce.

not really, no.
