if someone does go this route, i'd highly suggest not implementing it as shown 
in that screenshot as it's a bit ... ugly and is way over the top. instead, 
if using Qt4, think about using a style sheet on the lineedit and combobox to 
add a nice little border to them; or perhaps "light up" the clear icon; 
anything that is noticeable but more subtle than changing the whole 
background of an entire set of widgets.
