I looked at the code - finally - and I believe the KPluginSelector::default() 
implementation is not correct. The default button is supposed to restore 
the "system defaults" and not revert the changes. That's what the load() 
function is meant for. (And I don't understand the comment: 
KCModuleProxy::defaults() should work - if it doesn't please let me know.)

The KPartPlugins stuff is another thing that could be streamlined for KDE4. 
The plugins should be installed as services (and this way they'll be cached 
in ksycoca) which results in only the non-KParts addPlugins method to remain.

I'd say: commit what you have tomorrow and I'll talk to you on IRC...
