At least the file extension support Benjamin fixed already (that's also in the 
4.2 tech preview), by simply supporting the extension in the template: 
QTemporaryFile tmp("fooXXXXXX.txt") for example.

But I think Dirk also had some security concerns. Dirk, do you remember the 
details?
