I've talked today with libxklavier author and he's open to suggestions, 
the obvious reason for him to get glib is to get some utility staff 
(e.g. hashtables). If anybody can suggest other suitable library or 
solution he's willing to consider it.
It also would be nice to hear arguments against (indirect) dependency on 
glib, especially taking to account that arts already depends on that and 
nobody complained for years.
