since the status bar shows status for the view, i fail to see the problem

sorry, i'm not ready to cop out and punt things out into the future like this. 
i've watched us do this version after version in the past and have realized 
that if you want to do something do it now. it's either a good idea now or 
it's not a good idea ever.
