RPATH for installed binaries ?

Ok, let me expand this:

It doesn't have to be the default. But if it isn't, it must be a 
configure-time switch (./configure --enable-rpath).

I've seen distributions that install the whole of KDE in a separate dir 
(/usr/lib/kde3) except for the application binaries.
