It doesn't have to. It's just the default. You can change the 
organizationDomainName property in QCoreApplication if you want a 
different automatic service name.

The relationship between a KDE program and having a .kde.org subdomain 
should be one and the same: only KDE programs can have such domains and 
all of them can.

This doesn't mean we'll start hosting every application's webpages. All we 
need is a redirection.

No, I have recently not asked the sysadmins about this. But I remember 
similar discussions in the past and I think we came to the conclusion 
that .kde.org subdomains were preferrable and allowed us better control.
