This discussion is brought up now and again.

I think the 800x600 rule should be kept because:

- English is terse. If the English text fits an 800x600 display, the Italian 
translation will fit in a 1024xwhatever display
- Default font size may not be large enough for some user. Having panels fit 
an 800x600 display by default, lets people increase the font size if 
needed.
