I just saw, that diff -ub will ignore whitespace changes. So different 
files, where only whitespaces were changed, can produce a diff of 0 bytes. 
In that case, it is really kate's fault, that it crashes.

I now even think that there probably is no bug in KProcIO, as the katepart 
always displays a line more than there really is. So If there is 1 line 
externally added, the lines match, and the kate buffer and file equal.

Probably you can discard all the previous mails about this issue...
