Did I just get a bad package then? This was for FreeBSD 5.4. Everything 
works, except that the user-install procedure no longer installs menu 
entries and stuff.

Building OO.o myself is not feasible. I guess I could download the 
sources and hunt around for some icons. I did find some .desktop files 
in the install directory, but they were broken.
